Hi all,
I have a problem with my cpu fan speed control as even when idol its pretty loud (goes in short bursts of noise and stops for a second or two and ramps up again) when idol which is rather annoying, but i can live with that. The problem is when gaming the fan gets really loud and stays loud and i get that its gotta cool the cpu but looking at cam the cpu temp never exceeds 53 degrees c. And the idol temp is always around 50 too, its like it has this deep obsession with the cpu staying around 50 degrees and i really dont need it that cool while gaming, i would much rather have it around 70 degrees with a slower fan speed. The CPU in question is an i5-6500 but the alienware was purchased with an i7-6700k which i took out to use in a new build (my main rig) which is currently chilling with a hardline custom loop which is so much quieter.
i am not a complete noob when it comes to pc's and ill say all the things i have tried to not waste anyone's time:
-Bios fan curve
-aleinware command centre software - it tells me fan speed and what not but doesnt let me control cpu fan speed, just a case fan
-Speed fan - it would not detect any of my fans but im not very familiar on the software so it could just be me, although i did look at a lot of tutorials on it and none really worked for me
-HWAN fan control - im not sure if this is the correct name (not the best memory) but it was something along those lines, it too did not allow fan control on my pc despite many forum threads saying it worked for alienware x51's (my pc)
-unplugging the cpu fan socket and moving it to another header in the hopes that that one
will allow me to change the speed, sadly did not work, merely made the cpu fan even more eratic, fan speed did still scale with the cpu temp tho.

Honestly im out of ideas and really want some help with this, i cannot bare that damn fan anymore and am not too sure about flashing a modded bios onto it.
Thanks in advance to anyone who replies!

Alienware customer support maybe able to provide better advice. You've taken all steps that most of us would suggest. The fan curve seems locked for the 6700k but you've put in a lesser CPU which needs less cooling and it maybe creating an issue. The other thing that maybe worth doing is updating your bios if there's an update available and try the same steps again.
