Hey guys. Got a friend wanting to get into PC gaming because of Destiny 2. Can you guys recommend a solid build that will run it 1080p/60fps? He already has mouse / keyboard / monitor and a HDD. An SSD might be nice f you can manage. Budget is around $800 USD with $1000 being the limit. Thanks!

an i5 8400 with a gtx 1060 6gb would demolish that game, pretty much any game at 1080p

Yeah the new i5 8400 seems to be comparable to the older i7 7700k for gaming, only problem is good luck find one for sale, the new Intel line is sold out pretty much everywhere. You could probably do a AMD Ryzen build for similar price and get the same results. Personally I would spend the money and get a 1070 over a 1060 for your graphics card. As far as motherboard they are pretty much identical these days and the price is really just on features you may want. If you do go with the new generation Intel amke sure its the 8th gen 1151 socket because Mobos with the 7th gen will not work.

open box bought

I built the above which plays GTA V at 1280x1024 @ 60 Hz (locked, 0 frame drops) (note I had to sacrifice shadows to "high" not "very high", FXXA)

The cost was under $500 n.i. Windows 10 purchase, because I took advantage of "open box" retail deal on mobo and video card and case.

I'm unsure what Destiny 2 requruires but first thing i'd upgrade on my build is "1050" and make that a ? 1080?

Anyway the Destiny 2 site should have "minimum requirements" and "suggested requirements", and i think to pull solid 60 fps without frame drops you'll go with suggested requirements and a little nicer video card than they suggested in the suggested requirements, one model up from that.

From my build (which may not be right for Destiny 2 ) that would be ~ $700-$800 build.

There is quite a difference from running 1280x1024 to running 1080p.
