I just bought a gtx 1070 for my current system that was currently using a gtx 970, but now all my computer does is turn on with no signal going to my screen. I put back the 970 and it boots up fine, so everything still works.
i7 2600k
Msi p67a-gb65 (B3) Bios 1.j0
1000w psu

Solution
Before RMA etc I would reset CMOS with 1070 in....
**But this is your decision**
There is a POSSIBILITY that cmos will reset bios settings to default including then your 970 may not boot......

This is a tough one.....

Normally this is exactly what I use onboard graphics for .........

if you meant the P67A-GD65 (B3)

Yes, should totally support it ;)

2600k has on board video yes?

hook up to that and see if you can get into bios, then look for GPU boot or Display order or similar.

Do this with your 1070 in the machine.

At least you can see if it is being detected etc
