Floppy disk reader question

I found a working floppy disk ready at the scrapyard today, I found the specs on Internet and the reader only support 1.44 MB. What does that mean, is this the max that this reader can read and write?

Solution

Maximum capacity of the 3.5" floppy disk it takes. About a minute of medium quality mp3.
And if you ever come across some 3.5" floppy disks, and if you find a way to connect it to a current PC.

It was in the scrapyard for a reason.

Ok thanks, I will buy some floppy disks and a IDE to USB on eBay and enjoy my life with a bookshelf full of disks.
EDIT: Are floppy disks outdated? I don't want to look like a 60 years old man...

Why would you do that?
A $5, 5GB USB stick holds ~3,000 times more data, and is faster. And obviously cheaper.

The "IDE to USB" adapter will do you NO good at all. Superficially the floppy drive's connectors look like IDE HDD ones, but they are not. They are a different size and number of connection pins. Moreover, a floppy disk communicates with its controller in a very different manner. A mobo that supported a floppy drive had its own dedicated floppy controller chip and mobo header DIFFERENT from IDE. Without that, you cannot connect the floppy drive to your system.
