'2 x DDR3 DIMM sockets supporting up to 16 GB of system memory'

Does this mean it can support two 16gb sticks of ram or 16gb of ram altogether so the maximum would be 2 x 8gb sticks?

thanks

Solution
If there's 2 slots, you can't install 1x16 GB stick.

If it supports 16 GB max, that doesnt mean you can install 1x16 GB in 1 slot. It means 16 GB total for both slots

You can only install 2x2, 2x4, or 2x8 GB sticks

But if you install 32 bit, you can only install 2x2 GB

This may slightly vary from board to board.

Some WILL take a single stick with all the capacity, while others will not.

In even more rare cases, You can even pass the limit.(My old H55 board lists 8 gigabytes MAX, but is running along fine with 16.)

Please note that some operating systems also have limits. Windows 7(64-bit) home premium for instance can only use 16 gigabytes total.
