sorry if this has been posted before but the only threads I could find were from more than one year ago

Anyway, at the moment I have an R9 270x and it's terrible, so I need an upgrade, I was thinking about a windforce 780ti and was wondering if this could handle games today.

For clarification I have 3930k oc to 4.5ghz, so no bottlenecks (I think) and a 2560x1080 display that it will be powering (21:9) and 48gb ram, my motherboard does support sli so I could go that route, I found 2 matrix 780tis on ebay for £200 each and thinking I can get then down to around £350 for both as i have about 350 to spend but don't want to spend all of it on a 1070 or something.

Thanks in advance!

GTA 5 is a 4 year old game, its not indicative of how modern AAA games will run.

As the owner of a 780 3gb who runs it at 1080p I would not buy a 3gb card in 2017. I have already found games that can hit 3gb @ 1080p at high settings and it causes bad stuttering even though maintaining 60fps. If you tweak a few settings you can fix this but 3gb is already a limiting factor.

For 1080p gaming, 780ti;s still can run most of the games but most likely not in a high settings. You are better off with 1 strong gpu than SLI as scaling is not really worth it right now. FPS gain is not high when gaming in SLI, plus the number of games that support SLI fully is not that plenty as well. 1 1070 is still better than 2 780tis in my opinion. But its up to you

A 780 TI is not worth £200, don't buy one. You will be disappointed as they only have 3GB RAM which is not enough for modern games above 1920 x 1080. You will be able to buy a used 980 TI for around £200 on Ebay, go with one of those and you will be very happy.

Thanks for the answers, ive looked at 980tis and cheapest I can find is £300, I've had one before and it died because it kept overheating, even with new thermal paste, might consider another one though, also is a 1070 any better for £100 more as benchmarks I looked at the 980ti is cheaper but faster, really confused.

its got 3GB vram but do does the 1060 3gb, how do they compare? would you say the 1060 is faster or the 780ti, as i found another 780ti on gumtree near me for £135 and might jump for it

Are you talking about VRAM? If you are you should already know that Sli does not work like that. If you sli 2 x 3gb cards the VRAM does not add so you still only have 3gb. Both cards have to store the same information so if a game needs 2.5gb VRAM each card will be using 2.5gb or 5gb total. Now DX12 multi-gpu support can add VRAM but I think there are only 2 games that actually support this and the old 700 series doesn't run DX12 very well.

If you believe you have 6gb VRAM because that's what GTA V says you have that is a known bug.
