this is the reverse problem; i am curious about building a computer with ddr2 pc2 6400 800mhz 200pin so dimm, 4 x 1gb modules

originally upgrading a very old pc with ddr pc 3200.
order came in as ddr2 modules that are not compatible

i ordered the correct modules and will upgrade my very old xp x64 amd 4400+

but, i now still have the wrong memory. my two options are to return the memory or build a new pc using this old technology. honestly, if i were building a new system, i'd use bleeding edge technology. after all, that's how my amd processor from 2004 is still able to keep going. the 4400+ has just been an incredible experience.

but let's not get distracted. i can't do virtualization. i/o tasks take a long time. i understand the limitations of my current system. the worse part is that i can't find current web browsers. so i was considering building another system. but i wasn't expecting it to be with ddr2.

i have no idea where to start. should i build with the most cost effective parts, or should i use the best available parts. i can't see placing these in slots designed for ddr4 16gb chips. so i'm leaning toward the cost effective route. can i build a decent system with low tdw with this memory ? i would appreciate a few suggestions.

To be honest, finding a motherboard that supports those old RAM will for the first be very expensive, and for the second still giving you an old and slow system.
Just throw those old RAM away and look for a new Intel Coffee Lake or AMD Ryzen build. It will never be worth it, to put money into such an old and outdated platform.
