Hello there !

Just today I helped a friend assemble his PC, but we encountered a problem when we tried installing Windows on the SSD. The SSD is a Western Digital Green 240GB (WDS240G1G0B). After a ton of YouTube tutorials we still couldn't get BIOS or Windows to see it. I took it to my place, put it in my PC and it worked like a charm... I initialized it as GBT, then installed Windows 10 on it and returned it to my friend. But his PC still doesn't see it.

His MOBO is Asus Prime Z370-A. Mine is Asus Strix Z270-E Gaming.

What can he do ? I can't find nothing on Google about this. Thank you !

Solution

read the manual Page 1-22

make sure you use the one with SATA support and make sure SATA6G_1 port is not used by any drive

Look at page 2-11 as well

you have two M2 ports on that motherboard.

one supports SATA and PCIe M2

and the other only Supports PCIe M2 and not SATA M2

put it in the other M2 slot it will work

and dont forget to select it as a bootable drive from Bios.

if the M2 sata slot is shared with any Sata ports , keep the sata port which is shared with it empty.

I really can see only one M.2 slot. I could not find another one on the ASUS PRIME Z370-A.

Check if M2 port is enabled. In some cases, the port is turned OFF in System Setup (BIOS). When you connect a new drive to the system, you may need to manually turn it on before you can see the drive in BIOS.

You were right. There was another M.2 Slot hidden away under some plastic plate. We put the SSD there and it worked. Thank you !
