ryzen 5 1500X
MSI B350 Mortar
2 x 4gb Kingston HyperX Savage RAM

So I'm a bit of an idiot, but when I tried to check if my RAM was seated properly (due to some issues with it), I accidentally pulled one of the modules clean out of the slot while the PC was running. Subsequent attempts to power on the PC didn't work until I swapped the sticks to the other pair of slots (to be filled after the first 2), then everything worked fine again

Is there a need to run the sticks on the recommended 2 slots? Or is there any way I can check if the slots are actually fried? thank you!

Solution
For first question: Your motherboard has 4 RAM slots, 2 slots for each channel, so as long as you have 2 working RAM slots with 1 slot in each channel it wont affect performance.
For second question: Only way to check is to try, as you already did without luck, it's pretty safe to say that the RAM slot is not working.

This is the reason you should never touch anything inside the case with power on.
