Happy Halloween!

For context my skill level is "strong intermediate skills". I know my stuff but I couldn't walk into an IT job.

And...I give up. I have an AMD M5A97 R2.0 with an FX 832 CPU. I've been fighting with ongoing system crashes for three years and I have done everything to get it stop and I give up. There is a ghost in this machine and this is my last ASUS motherboard...ever.

So I'm looking for:

(1) hardware choices and recommendations on a good replacement candidates for a motherboard/CPU. Used for gaming. Looking at Intel.

(2) Any general advice you'd like to share on swapping out the mobo+CPU

What's in the machine now
Mother Board M5A97 R2.0
CPU AMD FX 8320 Eight Core
RAM 4, 8GB DDR3-1600 UDIMM 1.5v, Kit of 4 from Crucial
Video Card GEForce GTX 970 4GB Video card
Platter Hard Drive i TB WD Blue SATA III
SSD OCZ ARC 100 series 480GB SSD
OS I own a full version of windows 10 pro

I want to replace these
Mother Board M5A97 R2.0
CPU AMD FX 8320 Eight Core

Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

So far I've picked out:

Mobo:
ASRock Z270 Extreme 4
Socket Type: LGA 1151

CPU
Intel Core i7-3770 Ivy Bridge Quad-Core 3.4GHz (3.9GHz Turbo) LGA 1155 77W BX80637I73770 Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 4000

RAM
CORSAIR Vengeance LED 32GB (2 x 16GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3000 (PC4 24000) Desktop Memory Model CMU32GX4M2C3000C15R

The video card and drives are being kept.

If anyone with some extra smarts could take a look and let me know if there are any obvious problems, I sure would appreciate it.

Thanks!

Asus is one of the best motherboard manufacturer's around. You should probably blame AMD instead for making a mini space heater. All jokes aside. The 3770 won't work with a z270 board as the CPU is LGA1155. Equivalent compatible CPU would be the 7700k.

Thanks Paul! How about that Ram?

Krzyimprt: Never again. I've had 3 ASUS motherboards and in all three cases I spent weeks or months troubleshooting the problems only to find out that the root cause was the motherboard.

I will never buy ASUS again. Never ever.
