Just bought a New ROG z 270 Strix motherboard, and after loading windows 10, I noticed that my clock lags.

After going through couple of forum threads, I figured out the way to check if its a windows issue or my CMOS battery is dead.

I switched off my PC for about an hour, when I switched it on, it was showing the time I had switched off the computer.

Since it is a brand new motherboard, I am little doubtful about this Dead Battery solution.

Could there be any other reason for this. Has anyone ever experienced such issue with ASUS motherboards?

PS: My computer boots normally with the same battery.

Yes it can happen. Bad battery batch. Yes PC boots because it's connected to the PSU standby power.

If you turn PSU switch off for a while and then upon boot the system instructs you to press a key and go into BIOS and setup it's reason that it's the battery.

If everything works as it should I wouldn't worry. Replace the battery and see if the RTC lag behind again when you unplug the PSU from mobo.
