High-end System Lagging

Hello everyone,

I am having problems running most games, even when presetting them at medium graphical settings.

Specs:
CPU: i7 3930K
GPU: GTX 1070
RAM: Mixed - 6x 4 GB sticks (24 GB's - 1333mhz)
PSU: Cougar CMX 1000W

The main problem is I see people using a system just like mine and getting 80+ fps on most games at 2K or 4K resolution. My system can barely play Team Fortress 2 on medium settings at 1080p without dropping below 60 fps (note: I know that the new TF2 update is causing performance issues on most machines, but it's still incredibly slow for such a high-end system). Even Overwatch can't be played on the "High" preset without getting less than 100 fps, and most systems like mine get 160+ fps on the Ultra/Epic presets...

My system is kept very cool, cleaned out of dust frequently, and gets maintenance every week (Disk Cleanup, CCleaner, Glary Utilities, etc), but still lags more than it should. Any ideas would help a lot!

Thank you,
flaiR

Try double checking all the internal power connections (particularly on motherboard and GPU), and make sure you have correct drivers installed for the 1070. Make sure your monitor is plugged directly into the GPU, not the motherboard.. but I would be surprised if you could see anything at all without doing that since i7 3930k doesn't have integrated graphics afaik.

What temperatures are you seeing under load vs idle, are all the fans connected and spinning?
Did you build this PC yourself? how long have you had it, and at any point were you seeing better results?

Temperatures have always been very low during any load. All fans and connections are tight and secure. I forgot to mention that I had a Intel Xeon E5-2680 @ 2.7ghz before this and the frame rates were exactly the same. Also, all drivers are up to date and both of my monitors are plugged into the 1070.

How low is "very low".
I'm not too worried about the CPU being the bottleneck, unless there's some background task overloading it. I used to be able to get far beyond 60FPS in TF2 @1080p using a Core2 Q6600

Maybe your RAM is running in single channel mode? CPU-Z should be able to tell you how many channels are being used and have a lot of other helpful info.

You can also try going down to a matched pair and see if it affects performance, or a set of 4 if part of your mixed RAM is a quad channel kit - double check your mobo manual to make sure everything is in the right slot, sometimes the arrangement can be counter-intuitive. Odds are that having 6 sticks of RAM, at a minimum, knocked things down to dual-channel mode.
RAM for a i7 3930K should be used in matched sets of 4.

I actually found the heart of the problem and created a new thread explaining the issue. Also, my motherboard has 8 RAM slots and 6x are being used. CPU-Z says I currently have Triple channel memory.
