Screen goes blank after GPU driver installation

Hi guys.

I hope you can help - I've exhausted every possible solution in my head!

So I built a PC for a friend, and upon downloading and installing the Nvidia driver, the screen goes blank and into standby and never wakes up.

This also seems to happen if I let Windows update try and download a driver too, although it's hard to pinpoint.

These are the steps I've tried

  • Clean install of Windows 10
    Safe mode works fine
    Low res mode DOESN'T work
Without the GPU driver (and network disconnected upon Windows installation) it works indefinitely

The strange thing is, when I first built it, it worked for a few hours. I ever bought another GPU of the same make/model (i needed one as well) and again, when I installed the GPU it worked for a bit then went blank.

It's so odd because as I said before it works fine in safe mode so it surely can't be a hardware component?

I've tried disabling Fast Boot in the BIOS too...

Any ideas?

As safemode works, it's probably a driver issue.

Does the original GPU you used still work? Are you able to download/install the driver etc without losing signal?
If so, it may well be the 'new' GPU you're using.

What are the full system specs?

AMD - Ryzen 5 1400 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor
Samsung - 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
Corsair - Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000 Memory
Zotac - GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB OC Edition Video Card

I don't know the PSU model off the top of my head, I will get it later though, same with the motherboard

the "old" GPU seems to behave strangely in my system at home, the Nvidia drivers don't install due to "incompatible hardware"

specs below

It's just so odd how it works in safe mode+Windows installation
