Do I need a higher wattage power supply?

(Sorry if this is in the wrong place I’m new here)

So I recently upgraded to an Intel i7 8700K processor and an ASUS ROG STRIX Z370-E gaming motherboard. My GPU is a GTX 1080 and I have the Corsair CX 500 power supply. Once making the mobo and CPU upgrades, my gram rates actually started to drop in my games and when I used to get 200+ in Overwatch, I’m now stuck st 70-110. Im wondering if this is because my CPU is drawing too much wattage away from my GOU, or if there is another internal compatibility issue I may not know about causing me to half the amount of frames I got while upgrading my motherboard and CPU. Thanks for any responses!

Well if you look at Corsairs specs for your PSU here:
http://www.corsair.com/en-us/cx500-80-plus-bronze-certified-power-supply-na-refurbished
under tech specs.
What is important here is the rating of the 12v rail, this rail is the one which delivers 12v to your GPU, CPU and other 12v devices. On their specs it is rated to deliver 38A. Which equates to 456W possible through to your components on the 12v rail. (Since Power(watts)=volts*amps)
So with your specs you may pull up to ~400w+ at peak draw. (Including all other devices HDD's, fans) Which should be perfectly fine as this is peak on not the average.

If your power was bad you'd more likely not only see performance degradation but also probably see instability in your hardware, so more crashes and weird looking specks on your screen. So although possible, unless your power supply is damaged it should run fine ;)
I would look at clearing drivers and other software items that could impede your performance first.
Also see if your GPU load is infact staying at 100% load while gaming.

yeah. you build only pulls about ~400w and if you overclock, it will only go up slightly, your fine, but it would be nice to get at least a gold rated PSU for you build considering your budget and componets.

If you guys believe it’s not the power supply, then what do you think could be causing to me to have half as many frames that I had before even though I upgraded CPU and mobo?

I don’t know how to reply on mobile so I’ll write it under yours @Zerk, Windows was not freshly installed it was the same as before I replace the MOBO and CPU, it booted straight into my OS as soon as I turned it on, no installing through bios was needed. Do you think a fresh install of windows would do the trick? Also, I use speccy to watch my temps. It’s low 40 in desktop and around 59-64 in game. I heard the 8700K runs hot either way
