Hello Guys, I am from India. i live in rural area and recently my plan got upgraded to 8mbps . But i am getting only 3.5 mbps .If i go to my router settings it says Download Line rate(Kbps)= 4095, i.e. , half of the total. My SNR Margin (0.1dB) = 86(Dowstream) 221(Upstream) Attenuation (0.1dB) = 485 (Downstream) 340 (upstream) The exchange is about 3-4 kms away from our house .

I talked to its Customer Care Lady and she said that she didn't receive any information about this upgrade and asked me to call later which kinda awkward as my net speed was 2Mbps and increased To 3.5 Mbps .i have tried on multiple devices like Mobile Phones and my laptop. And i have also tried using Ethernet But results are the Same.
Is it Something with my router as it Has Download Line rate(Kbps)= 4095 or mY ISP has limited . PLease help me and tell me what can i do ...

Depends on the technology used. If that's xDSL it means that it runs on the speed displayed.

If it's VDSL2 there always should be 8Mbps set for a 8Mbps product, no matter if the line can supply it or not.
If it's ADSL2+ the rate should be adjusted to the maximum capabilities of the line used. So if your line can't deliver more than 4mbps, setting the modem to 3.5 will ensure it runs stable.

If it's DOCSIS it could be that it's running with 4Mbps per channel with 2 active channels. But I'm not a DOCSIS expert.

the OP is not likely on DOCSIS, v3 currently runs 28 downstream channels and 4 upstream channels, and has 1.3GB max speed combined. up/down speeds, and is entirely controlled by the ISP itself (why you can get 20MB/5MB, 50/5, 100/10, 250/25, 500/50 speed packages), but even them will tell you " it is a speed up to the posted speed, depending on quality of lines, distances from central etc. ) that gets far worst with ADSL (all version) as copper phone lines are affected by so many magnetic fields from your jack to the central, including everything from neon Light system to refrigeration systems.

Yeah there are a bunch of things that effect xDSL signals. In the end it's mostly not even things in your power, copper quality has a pretty strong influence on the signal degradation as does line length.

If it's an ADSL line, chances are the DSLAM port can deliver 8Mbps but the line actually can't and requesting more than 4Mbps from the modem causes instabilities and packet losses.

You know...or your ISP is ripping you off. They did that until a few years ago here in central Europe as well.
