VR needs to have some USB 3.0 ports
i7 990X ?
in terms of single core performance the i7 990x is slow, it is still ok for ~60 fps gaming
the VR experience would be lacking, overclocking it will help but would still not be great as it requires smooth high fps

a gtx 1060 6gb would be the gpu you would start with if you wanted to try VR
in order to use a 1060 you also require at least a 500w power supply with the proper pcie cables
