Basically, my HDD recently broke, I hadn’t used my PC for a few weeks and suddenly it wasn’t showing up in bios or anything so I decided to buy a new one. I’m tight on money, so I decided to take out the HDD out of my laptop, because I couldn’t be bothered to buy a new version of Windows and put it on a new Hard drive. The Hard Drive is showing up in BIOS, and I have put the Hard Drive as first boot, and when it resets it’s a black screen with a blinking underscore. I’ve been searching forums for a few days now and it’s hopeless so I thought i’d make my own. I can send pictures, or answer any questions. thanks so much!

You have a couple problems. Your laptop hard drive doesn't have the proper hardware/driver config for your desktop. It MAY check the type of computer and refuse to boot on a different type. It may also be looking for a crypto module that a laptop might have that your desktop won't. Plus you are still violating the license of that Windows copy by moving it to your desktop.

If you had a legal version of Windows on your desktop, you don't have to buy a new version. You can re-activate your existing license after you install on a new disk.

I do have a Legal version, but it came with the pre bought computer. The desktop case with windows 7 on it. If there is any way I can get that version key or anything to reactive on my new HD, please explain. If not, would I have to buy a new Windows 7/10 version? Thanks for the quick response by the way.
