Budget Streaming CPU

Currently, I have an i3 6100 in my PC and would like to stream some of my games (mainly Osu! and Destiny 2). I don't want to buy anything too expensive as I only have $400 and I don't want to use it all up. I have a brand new unused Ryzen 1200 in my drawer with a dead B350 (came in dead and still no reply from MSI for my warranty after a full MONTH), and I'm afraid of buying another B350 (especially from MSI) because I'm afraid it won't work. Should I spend $70 for another B350 or try and go for a used LGA 1151 i5?

I would return the 1200 & board if possible (or at least RMA the board and sell both) and buy a 1151 i7 which will be more then powerful enough for streaming. Depending on your current motherboard you will want to make sure the BIOS is up to date so it's compatible with this i7.

Well like I said, I'm on a bit of a budget but I'll consider the i7. I'm hoping to get a new CPU as well as a new GPU which is why I'm asking if it's a good idea to go for an i5 so I have enough to buy maybe a 1060 6gb [strike]or maybe even a 3gb[/strike] scratch that, I'd rather stick with a 1050ti than "upgrade" to a 3gb 1060

Get the 7700K if you have a locked motherboard or a 6700 if you have a Z170 board because you can OC that CPU

but maybe it's best to get a better video card, you don't need to use your CPU to stream gameplay. Nvidia has NVENC which is good for streaming if you don't mind the quality losses it involves

Well if you can sell that 1200 & RAM'd motherboard and add that to the budget then you should be able to afford the 6700/GTX 1060 6gb.

This would easily handle your streaming needs without having to get a i5 or GTX 1050 ti.

None of the above answers consider that the poster only has $400 of a cpu and motherboard. The 1st mistake the poster made was buying an MSI board - full stop.

I'm assume 1080p gaming, so i 1050ti will be ok. Personally for gaming and streaming 6 cores may be better than 4. go on youtube, you'll see. You can get a r51600, gigabyte motherboard, and 1050Ti for $463. See link below

I actually already use a 1050ti and didn't even know that you could use your gpu for the encoding. I know that alone is enough to stream Osu! at 720p60fps but Destiny runs just a tad choppy on my end when I stream it at even 648p35fps. I was thinking that maybe an i5 would run both games a lot better if instead of my 1050ti and i3 6100. But if you really think a Ryzen 1600 and board would be good, I'll consider it. It uses up a lot of my budget but I'll keep it in mind.

EDIT: Also, important info: I use a mATX case

At the bit rates used for online streaming, i think cpu encoding will give a better stream image. gpu encoding works best with higher bit rates (i think). the extra 2 cores on the r1600 will help reduce minimum frame drops. This is why your games maybe running choppy.
