I have an i5 quad core cpu.
I have faced a major issue since many days which is two of my cpu cores getting parked during games.

Recently I was able to narrow down the issue to one thing. What I observed is that during other games like Assassin's Creed for instance all my cpu cores work fine and none of them get parked. But when I try playing FIFA 18 it works smoothly for a few minutes, then 2 of my cores get parked and the game stutters and lags a lot.

I agree with the fact that not all games can utilize all cores but my friends with the same laptop configuration are able to play the game without any lag and all cores running smoothly.

Could someone PLEASE help me identify the reason for my cores getting parked ONLY DURING FIFA 18, that too after sometime? I've reached my breaking point with this problem and it's been driving me crazy since an year at least (previous installments of FIFA had the same problem).

PS: All drivers updated, playing in high performance mode, apps to unpark cpu won't work, tried the regedit method to unpark cpu didn't work.

First of all, you only have TWO CORES.
Each cores is hyperthreaded meaning it can run another thread of code (which may add up to roughly 30% more processing power).

However, your cores shouldn't be parked since they are under load. You may be misunderstanding what is being reported.

My guess is they are being THROTTLED down due to temperature. You can use CPUID's HWMONITOR or other to view the CPU core temperatures, however I'm not sure how LAPTOP's throttle due to temperature, load, battery usage etc.

*Does your friend have the same laptop model?

TASK MANAGER:
I believe when you show all graphs (performance-> CPU) then the FIRST one is the CPU main thread, the second is the hyperthreading on the first physical core. So collectively, the two first graphs represent the first PHYSICAL core.

So if the LAST two of the four graphs are not high then your second core is being parked. However, if the 2nd and 4th graph (Core1 and Core3 technically as it starts at Core0) are low that means HYPERTHREADING is simply not being used.

Update: I'm basing that you have TWO cores (four threads) on your links that show an i5-5200U.. if that's not correct please update this post with your CPU, and tell us if you have a dGPU such as a GT950MX or whatever

Also, run the following:
1) Intel CPU Diagnostic https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/19792/Intel-Processor-Diagnostic-Tool

2) find Prime95, download and run then see if all four THREADS in Task Manager run (runs way hotter so may throttle down a lot, but still curious to see how it performs).

So tell us if P95 works on all four threads at near 100% and what the "CPU SPEED" is after a couple minutes.

When I hover the mouse over the 4 graphs shown in Task Manager it shows CPU 2 and CPU 3 as parked.
The temperatures reach about 75-85C during other games without any CPU getting parked, but in FIFA once the temperature reaches near 75-80C two CPUs get parked.
My friend has the same specs, gpu, manufacturer except that he has 6th gen i5 while I have 5th gen i5.

Intel CPU Diagnostic Test shows PASSED.
When I run the P95 test all the CPUs ran at 100% for a few minutes but after that CPU 2 fell to about 50% and stayed there till the end of the test.

I ran the test for 5mins and all the other CPUs were working fine.

I also have same problem when cpu tenperature raises above 75 degrees
The two cores get parked no solution yet
