Hello!

I was looking to upgrade my RAM from 8GB to 16GB. What would you recommend? (Can it fit my motherboard?)

Thanks

Specs:
Mother board - MSI H110M PRO-D (MS-7996)
GPU- NIVIDIA Ge-Force GTX 1060 6GB
CPU- intel Core i5-6600
RAM - 8.00GB Dual-Channel

Solution
An SSD is a much better upgrade right now and it will also help you in the RAM department. Every time the system needs more RAM than you already have, it uses the hard drive as memory, thus slowing down your entire system. An SSD is a lot faster than hard drives, so besides lighting fast windows, software and game loading times it will also help you when your system needs more RAM. That said if a certain game requires exactly 16GB of RAM, then an SSD won't help you. An SSD will certainly make your system a lot more responsive and you'll see the loading icon a lot less on your screen waiting for something to load.
You motherboard only has 2 RAM slots. So if you are currently using a dual channel memory kit (2x4GB), then you cannot further upgrade your RAM, unless you sell your current memory modules and get a new dual channel kit of 2x8GB for 16GB total RAM.

Ah, I didn't know that, thank you. Do you have any suggestions for a channel kit?

Here you can see your motherboard's specs https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/H110M-PRO-D.html.

As you can see your motherboard only has 2 RAM slots and it only supports 2133 DDR4 memory. Any 2x8GB 2133 DDR4 RAM kit will work on your board. Getting faster RAM isn't worth it as it won't work at its rated speed and you'll be paying more for something that you won't use. That said before you get new RAM take a look at your motherboard and confirm that both RAM slots are occupied. If only one RAM slot is used then you may be able to add another 8GB RAM module.

Both RAM slots are being used at the moment. Also, what do you mean by "getting faster RAM isn't worth it"? Increasing my RAM to 16GB wont help stuttering/loading in games that recommends say over 8GB of RAM? Because I was asking a question about RAM on this site and someone said that RAM mostly helps with loading and allows you to multi-task better, so wouldn't more RAM benefit me?. I am probably wrong here. Just wondering because a lot of the new games like CODWII, recommends more than 8GB of RAM, so I just thought maybe upgrading would be a good idea for the future.
Thanks for the help!

I have found that adding more GB instead of more clock speed is much better. Having faster ram is great if you can afford it, but in most cases the performance increase will be almost imperceptible.

Go to a 16GB kit definitely, 32Gb if you can afford it. Don't worry so much about the speed, especially if its over DDR4-2133!

So would something like this be a good upgrade? https://www.amazon.ca/Corsair-Vengeance-3000MHz-Desktop-Memory/dp/B0134EW7G8?th=1

Yes, more RAM will certainly help you and make your system more future proof. Right now 8GB of RAM is considered the minimum but a lot of current games already recommend more than 8GB of RAM. So it makes sense to upgrade the RAM.

When I told you that getting faster RAM isn't worth it, I only talked about the RAM clock speed, not the total RAM capacity. Since your motherboard/CPU only support 2133MHz DDR4 RAM, getting faster RAM than that limit (2400/2600/3000MHz DDR4) isn't worth it. You pay more for that RAM and it will only work at 2133MHz on your system.

The bottom line is that if you want to upgrade your RAM you should sell your current RAM and get a new 2x8GB 2133 DDR4 RAM dual channel kit.

Finally do you have an SSD in your system; Because you mentioned something about loading in games. Having an SSD helps a lot in that department. It's a completely new computing experience and if you don't have one it may be a much better upgrade than getting more RAM.

Ah I see, so my mobo/CPU has a certain speed, so there is no point in getting ram that has more than that certain speed, it would just be wasting money. Good to know! For an SSD, I don't believe I do, under my storage in the program Speccy I just have a hard drive no SSD. In my case, would an SSD be better than upgrading my RAM capacity?

Very interesting, I will have too look into that, sounds better than new RAM at the moment. Thank you very much for your time to respond to my questions. Much appreciated! :)

I would go for something more along these lines. Since this is a 1x16 kit you can always grab another of these down the road when you have the money and throw it in machine to easily double your memory https://pcpartpicker.com/product/VcTrxr/gskill-memory-f43200c16s16gvk
