I installed Ubuntu 16.04.3 as a secondary os to my Windows 10 because I need Linux environment for my diploma work. I was silly to only allocate 30 gigs of free space which of course wasnt enough and I had to reinstall Ubuntu. Here's where the fun begins. In windows, I deleted the ubuntu partition and allocated 100 gigs of space for the new install. The next time I booted, grub of course went into grub rescue mode so I inserted a win7 install disk and via command prompt I fixed the master boot record. Now I tried to install Ubuntu again and it fails because Grub is not installed therefore the OS cant boot, so it says. How can I fix this issue?

Solution
Actually 30 gigs is way more than enough. What was your problem with the 30 gig set-up? Many people allocate 16 gigs to each of their Linux distros so I am very curious as to what made you think that 30 gigs was not enough.

No I had to do a virtual machine and all together only 1 gigs of space was remaining on the ubuntu and my snapshot used all that and eventually my VM wouldn't even start up... but I solved the problem now. I installed it in uefi mode thats why it failed so I did the legacy install, it's all good now.

but thank you for your reply! this is a half-hour long installation, my diploma work, so basically if I ever have to reinstall ubuntu it wouldn't be much of an issue anyways.. :)
