Im looking to possibly upgrade my cpu to perhaps an i5 7600k, just wondering if it the price would be justifiable in terms of performance increase. My gpu is a gtx 1070 rog and I also have a h80i that i would reuse for cooling. What do you recommend?

Or would I be better simply upgrading my motherboard (H97 Anniversary) to one that would allow me to overclock my current i5 to get a few more years out of it.

Thanks

Okay, you have to follow CPU/mobo compatibility. If you keep the H97 Anniversary then you can only select LGA 1150 CPU's so the top of the line is the i7-4790K but for gaming it is not a huge difference. Not worth the money in my opinion.

The 4690K is still a very good CPU as is the GTX 1070 ROG so I would be asking yourself why you need to upgrade at all. If you do want faster then I would be replacing the mobo as the 4690K is quite a good overclocker. Not many Z97 mobos are available new these days but this is a good one.

You may also want to consider a used mobo.

Thanks, yeah I shoulda just got a z board when I first bought all the parts. I found an asus z97 Maximus ranger mobo on eBay for £90, used but with a warranty. Hopefully I'll just overclock the i5 and get a good few more years out of it.
