Mobo: ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0
Ram: A-DATA DDR 3 8GB x2
HDD: Sandisk Ultra II 240GB SSD plus some more 2.5" HDDs
GPU: ASUS 1080Ti x 1
CPU: AMD FX 8350 watercooled by some Liquid cooled Coolermaster product
OS: 64bit Windows 10 pro edition
Screen resolution: 2560x1440@60hz
Game installed on SSD

Note: RIG upgraded from R9 390X some months ago

Problems are Stuttering every 5-10 seconds and fluctuating FPS between 35-60 every 5-10seconds, random crash after about 5-10 mins play. One time it was nvlddmkm.sys BSOD error. Sometimes it s whole system freeze. CPU usage maybe a bit high (all cores 60-90%) but rarely reach more than 95%, while GPU ALWAYS run below 90%. CPU temp max 58 Degree. GPU temp max 80. The GPU s fan won't even bother to turn faster than 50% for cooling since it s not hot enough. (See screencaps)

What I tried:
1. Use different version of driver like 384.94 and 388.13
2. Disable In Game Origin.
3. Delete and reinstall nvlddmkm.sys in safe mode
4. Turn resolution and graphic settings to much lower
5. Disable pagefile
6. Some Unpark CPU freeware
7. Removed 2 4GB A-DATA DDR3 Ram sticks with different latency (before it was 24GB in total)

None of above could solve nor improve the stuttering and crash problems. I think .... ordering the full version may not solve the problems.

I know the Mobo, RAM, and AMD CPU is bit old, but the RIG runs great with Dishonored 2, Tomb Raider and Mass Effect on MAX settings. While I say great, I don't mean super high FPS but at least 100% GPU and 30-80% CPU utilization is what I saw, without those stuttering.

Doubting if any component is holding back the RIG s performance.

Solution
Its worth the wait for a playable experiance.. Games often release and allow the users to be guinea pigs for there software, its often the only way to properly test the game before perfectin it.

I had a 4gb update for the Sims 4 today that fixed certain bugs and issues and that games nearly 4 years old!

I started to doubt my cpu when playing this same game before realising others have had the same issue.

Never doubt you gut instinct and always compare to others games performance and that usually gives you a good idea if its the new game or your own system.

Hope its sorted soon!

Have you monitored the CPU clock speeds? If I am remembering correctly that mobo lacks VRM cooling and doesn't work well with the 8350. It is possible the CPU clock is throttling when the VRM's overheat. If clock clock speed isn't dropping you are probably just limited by the cpu. I remember playing the the Need for Speed released in 2015 with a bad framerates and drops but never any crashes.

https://ibb.co/j5axAw <- This is a chart recorded by afterburner for few minutes.

Is it the same as CPU core usage ?

No, you need to monitor CPU clockspeed. If you see it bouncing between 4.0GHz and 1.4GHz while you're playing, then you've likely got VRM throttling. The FX 8350 is very power hungry and needs a higher end AM3+ board to run properly. Due to the FX 8350 being a poor performer relative to Intel's offerings, it quickly got relegated to being a budget CPU, and people started putting them on budget motherboards, leading to poor results like this.

Thanks for the reply. It doesn't bounce frequently. It may go between 4.1 or 4.0 .. but never lower when I run the game. But still the problems. I seem to solve the crashing problem by lowering the RAM clock to 1333 instead of 1600 : / but the stuttering persists.

Edited: Ran another CPU stress test tool prime 95 and I can see the clock speed jumping between 3.4GHz and 4GHz. This looks like VRM overheat?

Well then it doesn't sound like the vrm overheating is an issue for this game anyway, just the overall performance issues with the 8350. The game does seem to be pretty cpu intensive so it make sense. I loaded this demo on one machine with an i5 6600k @ 4.6ghz and a 1080. At 1440p 60hz it stayed at 60 most of the time with occasional drops into the 50's and once I saw 47 on the ultra preset.

But if it s just the CPU, problems should disappear when I lowered down the graphic and resolution settings. Strange enough .... Tried to reinstall windows, no improvement.

Hi,

Same shuttering here although it improved after the prologue.

I5 6500, gyx 1070 strix oc, 16gb 2133 trident z ram, 500gb samsung evo 850 ssd.

4k playback on low settings still only gets 59fps. Cpu usage shows 70-80% usage with nearly 100% usage if i test 4k ultra.

This seems to be a very taxing game on cpu more so than even gpu. Its very likely it simply needs a patch update but i don't fancy hurting my rig until this is released. For the cartoon style graphics and arcade style game I don't think I will be buying.

Its worth noting this is the trial and bugs etc are likely as these imrpove the game eventually!

Read another thread prior to this and even i7 cpu's and a gtx 1080 ti is struggling.

Hang in there for updates!

Yeah It s improved after prologue but still won’t stay smooth long enough to enjoy. My trial access still has 5 hours remaining. Will wait till relevant update/ patch to see if it’s worth buying.
