just turn my computer on and I got an cpu fan error . when i went into bios it was running under 300. and red i told mother board to run all fans higher and all went up but cpu. I replaced fan with new one and got same issue. is something wrong with mother board? when i run programs i don't seem to be having any issues and i think the fan is running on high. I also put it in second cpu fan 4 pin connector and still said it was running slow.

The CPUs OK if you get 30ish C readings at idle and you can confirm that if you try a few of these utilities and they all show the same value.

Which one did you use that shows this 30-34 C temp for cores?

I haven't used Speed Fan for a long time now and don't remember exactly how it shows values by default.

If that is -60 (minus 60) it's probably the distance between the current core temp and the Maximum junction temperature (TJMax) at which the CPUs are supposed to throttle themselves down or even shut down system to avoid physical damage due to overheating.

I think the TJMax for that CPU is around 95 C, your cores being around 30-35 C, therefore, 95 - 35 = 60.

I don't think you need to worry if cores are in mid 30s at idle.

What are full system specs?

Have you monitored your temps? If the temps are OK and more or less like similar CPUs at various work loads and if the fan actually works properly and ramps up under heavier loads it's OK.

There settings for this in BIOS which allow you increase or decrease the threshold for the warning/error or to disable it.

However, before changing or disabling that you should to make sure your CPU fan works normally and CPU temps are withing normal range.

thx for reply. The computer is is knda old it never has done this before when I turned it on. ill try to find the warning threshold.
had speed fan running for 6 hourd now. havent played a game or anything yet to see if temp gets higher its been at -60c using speedfan 4.52 .

As Satan said, your CPU may not need any higher rpm's. Try going into the BIOS and enabling manual fan speed, and set it at 100%.

Otherwise, if your CPU is overheating, the temp monitor may be sending mixed signals to your fan, causing it to run at lower speeds than it should be. Start with a temperature monitor program however, like CPU-Z or Core Temp.

Do you have the Intel stock cooler? Is that 60 C at idle?

I suggest you check temps with other utilities as mentioned by jatexsiron. You can use CoreTemp, as far as I know CPU-Z doesn't provide temps information.

You can also download portable version of HWiNFO (no installation needed) and see what the CPU temps and fans speeds are like. After you run it you can check click the sensors tab.

https://www.hwinfo.com/download.php

With proper cooling and even with the stock cooler you should get something between 35-40 at idle and 60-70 at full load give or take a few degrees. If that is in fact your temp at idle there's something wrong with the cooling.

Maybe you need to apply new thermal grease as it has lost its efficiency after years of use (assuming it has been running since you got the PC and never changed).

Maybe also a problem with heat sink seating properly and evenly on the CPU.

Check temps with other utilities and then we can move on.

I have after market heat sink EVGA M020-00-000234 Superclock CPU Cooler

ok so i got core temp and in task bar it shows core 1 at 34 being the highest temp Idle then the rest of the cores in lower 30s. when i open the app it says min 30c max 40 c 15% load. Guess Speedfan app isnt working or im reading it wrong. it still says 60c but its -60c and not moving so im just going to delete that app.

I just dont understand its weird that the mother board says fan is running so low now and never did before.
thanks for the reply
