Hi,

I am working in China, and must of the western websites here are blocked. (google, facebook...)
I have a VPN router at home that allow me to access those blocked websites, but I don't have one at work.
Can I connect from my work computer to my home computer or router to surf on my home internet?

Solution
Maybe but it is just another vpn of one form or another. If you are not allowed to run the actual vpn on your work computer running a vpn to your house would be the same issue. It depends I guess if your work would attempt to prevent or detect you doing this. Technically it can be done, exactly how depends on lots of things. I have never tried running both the vpn client and the vpn server function on the same consumer router.

If your work does not allow it I would not risk your job. The china government I am not sure how much they care about vpn inside the country, I know a lot of game consoles that run peer-peer work ok and that is a form of vpn.

China tends to be very good at detecting and blocking vpn. The more common...

China tends to be very good at detecting and blocking vpn. The more common things like openvpn do not follow the ssl rules exactly so can be detected. Using real sslvpn I have seen articles saying that even if the traffic is encrypted it has a pattern that can be detected when you are running vpn over ssl rather than the more common https. Not sure but you see reports of people complaining of being blocked even when they were using a vpn server that was setup in a friends house in a country outside of china.

That's right, there are some VPN that has special things to hide the traffic to bypass the firewall like Astrill with their stealth mode. Last month I had biz trip in Yunnan and had hard time connecting so i try to find smaller less known vpn and I ended up using hidester vpn which has some sort of stealth too.

To find those can just have a google search and go through like page 10-20 https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=vpn+per+month&dcr=0&ei=EjsSWunlNcima9W_n4AL&start=60&sa=N&biw=1781&bih=936

Hello,

I would suggest you to use a VPN developed for this purpose like Hidester VPN

There is some protocols developed for countries with internet filtering.

Cheers
