I'm currently running a GTX 970 TI and will probably have to upgrade for my Pimax 8K...
I have a €600 budget which means no 1080 TI.
So I can go for the 1070, 1070TI or 1080.

1070:
I don't know if this one will cut it for the Pimax when trying to run games on high / ultra settings?

1070TI:
Currently more expensive than the 1080 here in the Netherlands... Only exception is the inno3d twin x2 for €479 rest is €539+ while the 1080's start at €549 and the 1080's are overclocked and free destiny 2

1080:
Pretty decent but no idea which manufacturer to go with!
These are the ones I can choose from: https://www.alternate.nl/NVIDIA/GeForce-GTX-1080&s2m_channel=434&utm_source=altactie&s2m_campaign=NVIDIA+portal

MSI comes with a VR Button which disables Zero Frozr and goes for the highest OC and has VR and Overclock software so that's a nice bonus?

Anything else I need to look out for?

1070 / 1080 do great / fine at 1080p to 1440p.
Once you go past that to 4k or beyond you need the 1080Ti as a minimum.

They can recommend the 1070+ but that is only if you turn all the details down. Like all the way down.

Ask anyone here that has the 1070 how it handles 4k gaming...

It can dont get me wrong. But what do you think you have to sacrifice to get a "steady" 60 fps?

That 8K VR is equal to two 4K screen. even GTX 1080 Ti will struggle with two 4K screens .. you have no choice but to get GTX 1080 ti for dual 4K screens . Get a lower resolution VR if toy want to use GTX 1080 .

It is clamed to deliver 2 x 3840 by 2160 resolution...

Not even the 1080Ti can deliver that without lag unless you really tweak down the graphics...

Get a 1070 / 1080 and just wait until the next generation to come out. I would bet the next top high end card will be able to deliver true 4k with good frames.

But as of right now. There is not a card that can deliver 2 x 3840 by 2160 without lagging.

It doesn't work like that, it's upscaled resolution, the pimax 8k X is the one that's actually 8k and needs 2x 1080ti to run.

Its upscaling 1440p /eye

Or if using desktop convention 5120x1440 to 7680x2160

Ultra wide 32:9

You still need GTX 1080 ti for 5120x1440 , try to get the GTX 1080 ti then

I dont really know why you want 8K VR ...

Get lower resolution HTC Vive or Ocolus Rift and Enjoy it with GTX 1070/1080 if you really want to go cheaper.

Going 8K is for GTX 1080 ti ... no way below that if you really dont want to regret it later.

Not to mention the current specs state the pimax 8k has a refresh rate of 80 frames per second, im guessing you cand drop this to 60 like the playstation vr's headset. Another thing to consider is if you already play 4k games you might notice than some games struggle and some run fine. This can be down to the game engine and other gpu taxing special effects lile psysx, anti alaising, ambient oclusion shadows texture's and so on. So you can turn these off and still experience 4k but with less special effects. Its all hard to speculate at the moment i suppose.
