I have a network drive where I store big files, but I'm afraid of a drive failure. I wanted to buy a NAS to get RAID1, but I see it's a bigger machine with fans, etc.
I have a tiny apartment, the NAS would be in my bedroom. How loud is it? Does it work all the time? Does it automatically fall asleep like 5 minutes after I shut off my PC? Or will the modem's router access it all the time, keeping it awake (like it seems to be doing with my current network HDD).
Are there better alternatives? Should I just buy an external drive and buckup my network drive there every month?
