Asus strix 1080 VS MSI Gaming X 1070?

I've been looking at getting an Asus strix 1070, and overall it of course performs much better than my current MSI 1070, but when comparing the two I noticed that the 1070's turboclock is higher than the 1080's. Is that a problem? This is probably a dumb question, because I'm relatively new to PC building, but since it's quite a bit of money I thought I'd ask nonetheless.
Many thanks in advance!

Okay well first off I would not recommend you upgrade to a 1080 with nvidia's next generation of GPU's right around the corner. Even if that wasn't the case it's still a bit of a waste to go from a 1070 to a 1080, the performance gained is not enough to justify it's price in my opinion.

The 1080 has more powerful hardware, it does not matter if some 1070s have slightly higher clocks than 1080s, the 1080 will still outperform it handily.

Thanks for your answer! I could go from my current 1070 to a 1080 for about 60 bucks with a deal I found. Would you still recommend I keep my old one? Or is the price small enough to justify the purchase?

Don't waste your money.

Even if the specs on the Asus say it's "much better" than the MSI, in the real world, it probably isn't. A 1070 is a 1070 and while one brand may benchmark a few FPS more than another, you will never perceive the difference after spending over $400. The only difference between 1070's is the cooling and 1070's aren't know for having a problem with heat anyway.

As for the turbo clock - I have the most basic MSI Aero with a blower cooler.
(I wanted your Gaming X, but I got a deal)
The specs are Boost Clock 1683 MHz / Base Clock 1506 MHz.
But when I use it I get a Boost Clock of 1800 MHz even though I haven't touched overclocking and I have the cheapest cooler.

The OP is talking about a 1080 vs 1070. They likely meant to put asus strix 1080 in the first sentence, not 1070. Read the title and rest of the question.

Oops, I meant to put 1080 in the sentence, my apologies. Thanks for the help though!

Ooops. That was a cringeworthy mistake.
Sorry. My bad.
