I have 16gb of ram installed, however it only using 2.2 gb leaving the rest on the reserved. I’ve boosting the number and going into the bios but nothing is happening. I have also tried taking the sticks out and putting them back in but nothing works. Now I’m frustrated because it sucks that only a small amount of my ram is being used.

I get around 2GB used on a fresh reboot with nothing running. I also have 16GB installed. If the bios is showing 16GB along with windows you should be ok.

Thats normal. Ram is only being used if needed. Unless you mean that you cannot use more than 2.2gb no matter what is open (100tabs in chrome for example).

If you're running a 32-Bit OS, the maximum addressable memory space is 4GB (regardless of how much RAM you have installed). Depending on what else you have installed, some of that addressable memory space may already be taken up; leaving you with only 2.2GB of addressable memory space which is allocated to RAM usage.

Verify you're not running a 32-bit operating system.

No. That's an OS architecture issue and there's no way around it. If you need to use more than 4GB of addressable memory space, you need to use a 64-bit operating system... and there's no upgrade path. This requires a clean install of the new OS and all other programs you have installed.

64-Bit operating systems have been around since Windows XP (earlier if you include linux). If you're running a Windows OS from XP or later, there is a 64-bit version. The question is whether or not your OS license includes the 64-bit version. Is this a store bought computer or a home build computer? If it's a home build, where did you get the OS from (and what OS is it)?

You didn't say what OS. Windows XP/7/8/8.1/10?

What you want to do is go to an official Microsoft ISO download site like this one for Windows 7 and check to see if your license key works for both 32-bit and 64-bit. Entering your product key will give you what options (32-bit only, 64-bit only, or both) you have available. If the 64-bit ISO download is available, then you won't need to purchase a new license.

On the off chance you don't know your Windows Product Key, you can use Belarc Advisor to find the Windows Product Key. I just did this myself for my mother's computer, yesterday.

Ok. So what you want to do is Go Here and download the Windows Media Creation tool. I'm not sure if there are separate downloads for 32-Bit vs 64-Bit, but at some point, you should be asked which version you want to install (choose 64-bit)

Again, this is going to require a clean format and install of the operating system. Any data, favorites, shortcuts, you'll want to export and save before installing the new 64-Bit OS.
