My CPU is i5 8400, mainboard is Gigabyte Z370XP-SLI, VGA is MSI GTX 1080. Which RAM ( (2400, 2666, 2800 or 3000 MHz) I should invest in for best price/performance in gaming and daily office work. I also need this system to be futureproofed in at least 3 years. Thanks.

Locked CPU's can't go as high normally 8400 is locked and intel list 2666:

But sometimes you can go a little higher , like 3000 , but nothing above 2666 is guaranteed.

Go with the Memory QVL list on the Motherboards site , to get tested and known working higher rated sets.
