Hey guys, after seeing so many helpful responses to other posts, I figured I would give this a shot. I am currently looking to upgrade an existing system (specs below) to allow for 4k gaming. I figure I will at least need another graphics card and monitor, but not sure which to get. Without further ado, here are my system specs:

MB: MSI X99A SLI Plus

CPU: Intel i7-6800K (3.6Ghz)
CPU Cooler: Corsair Hydro H100i v2

HDD1: 5TB WD Black
HDD2: 4TB Seagate
SSD: 240GB SanDisk

RAM: 32GB HyperX Fury DDR4 2133MHz

GPU: ASUS AMD R9 390 STRIX

PSU: Corsiar 1200W 80+ Platinum

Case: Corsair Obsidian Series 750D

OS: Windows 7 Professional x64

Monitor1: Samsung 32" Curved (1080p)
Monitor2: Acer 20"

My current budget would be less than $1000 for the graphics card, and less than $500 for the monitor, if at all possible. Although I have in the past strictly used AMD cards, I am willing to go NVIDIA if that would be best for budget and performance. Thanks in advance!

Solution
If not for 4k editing, 2k 144Hz monitor will give you better gaming experience. For 4k, I suggest waiting for Volta as Vega just doesn't cut it and 144Hz 4k monitor.

I recommend:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

Video Card: MSI - GeForce GTX 1080 Ti 11GB GAMING X Video Card ($774.98 @ Newegg)
Monitor: Dell - S2716DGR 27.0" 2560x1440 144Hz Monitor ($499.99 @ Amazon)
Total: $1274.97
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

Also Gsync monitor.

That's always a good thing. I'm wondering if the price will drop any on Black Friday. Also, how does the 1080 Ti do heat wise? Is it a hot running card that I will have to worry about it overheating? My R9 390 runs very hot and I have to make sure the fans can keep up with the heat being generated. To do so, I leave the side of the case off. Granted, that results in a ton of dust, but I'd prefer to remove dust than components.
