Hello, I am running a cat6 Ethernet cable about 80 ft from my modem and router down to my NVR with 6 cameras at 1080p and to my smart dvd player. My question is can I split the cable at the end so that 4 wires go to each, so basically they can both run off of one Ethernet cable. Will that work or does the NVR require more than 4 wires or something? Thank you for any help!

Solution
All ethernet is point to point with a single device on each end. You can not just build some cable and make this work. You can though put a inexpensive switch at the remote end. I would recommend one that has gigabit ports but 1080p security cameras send compressed data streams so 10/100 would likely be enough. There is not a lot of extra cost to go to gigabit so I would still recommend that over 10/100

I was going to use one of those really cheap small plastic splitters, but yea looks like a switch would be faster. Thank you very much!
