So about a day ago I posted about my PC power cycling then not turning on at all, after troubleshooting and help from my previous post we have discovered the board has gone bad. I now stand at a cross roads. I had been planning to make the jump to a new chipset, DDR4 and new mobo in the next year prior to this happening. Now that my mobo no longer works I am wondering whether I should just make the jump now or not. If so what would be some recommendations for parts. I did a small amount of research last night and saw that most decent 1150 socket mobo are no longer in stock in places however buying everything now would be about $600 - $700. I play a lot of graphically intense games while streaming on the side. My current build is

Intel Core i7 4790K
Corsair Ballistix 16GB 1333MHz DDR3
Gigabyte Z87-UD3H
Gigabyte GTX 1070
Rosewell HIVE 650W Bronze Certified PSU
A 1TB Seagate Barracuda and two 2TB Seagate Barracudas

I would really like some help on this as I am open to doing either solution, just can't decide on my own. Thanks in advance!

Solution
1. keep everything the same, buy a Z97 MB or used ones:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel - Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor (Purchased For $0.00)
Motherboard: ASRock - Z97 EXTREME6 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($152.49 @ SuperBiiz)
Total: $152.49

2. If you feel streaming is dragging, get following two new CPU/MB/ram combos, first assumes you have good cooler ( You can update to unlocked cpu later):

The only games I have noticed issues with while streaming is BF1 dropping slightly below 60fps maxed at 1080p as well as Rise of the Tomb Raider dropping into the 40s with the same settings. I have the money to make a full i7 build again. I guess the question would be if you think its worth it over the one I currently have. My cooler is a budget Hyper Evo 212 that has kept my i7 in the 60 C and no higher while streaming.

If you think those fps while streaming doesn't bother you, buy a used Z97 MB on eBay and call it a day :) you can postpone your upgrade for fairly long time. With newer CPU/gpu coming out every now and then, you can pick new ones if they offer the best or slightly older ones that offer a lot with lower price due to new gen comes out. If it were me, I would wait for cheaper mb to come out and pair a I5-8400, or wait for new gen to come out and grab I7-8700k and Z370 MB combo deal when available.

I think that's my issue is I am definitely OCD with my FPS although I only aim for 60 at 1080p. Which is why I was debating doing the switch in the next year. But I could also gauge it on how well streaming is going before I invest in something like that. You think that 4790K will last another year or so as well as DDR3? I know I am asking a lot of questions I just want to get as much knowledge as possible. I really appreciate the help.

OCed 4790k is still close to top tier :) ddr3 is still decent. During the wait, you can research more on their performance since more benchmarks are on the way including streaming. One rival is Ryzen 1600/1700, but 8700k should win over them easily. Ryzen wins by cost-effectiveness. With enough budget, I7-8700k will give you best gaming and streaming capability.

chipset driver in windows is for old motherboard, but you have a new mb now. How do you think windows can handle that? :) Good to do:

1. backup your files
2. boot with safety mode to uninstall chipset drivers and get new drivers installed

I will do fresh install to prevent all potential driver issues. If it is win10, link it to your microsoft account. If win7, get product key first.

I never did that when my first motherboard wrecked, whoops! How should I go about that since my PC won't boot.

10. How would I go about using the other computer, I have an external but not sure how I would plug the drives of my gaming PC into my laptop for backup.
