i7 4790k unusual high temps

So recently i've been getting crashes while playing games that i found out after analyzing dump files are propably connecter to overheating. I did everything new drivers clean windows etc. (Ok i actually wanted to reapply thermal paste this morning but i found out im out of paste lol so i cant even boot my pc now). So yesterday i did some stress testing to see and holy --- its one hot boi... The lightest prime95 test resulted in jump to 95 deegres in like a second and the normal one resulted in bsod in 2 seconds my idle temps were also closer to 50 than usual. My cooler is pretty good Cryorig H7 thermal paste was the one that came with it. I know its not the best cooler for overclocked i7 but crashing while playing games and bsod in 2 seconds ? My i7 was oced to 4.5 on 1.180v, my mobo is asus maximus hero vii, psu is corsair rm 750i. Will do an update after getting new thermal paste and reseating the heatsink(propably monday) but for now what do you guys think might be the problem? I bought it used its still under intels warranty i have no proof of purchase and i live in poland so i dont really know about rma...

A fast rising temp is always either the cpu+cooler not contacting properly, or a fan not spinning up like is should. Otherwise the temp would slowly go up if you simply didn't have enough cooling.

1. Check to see if the cooler is contacting the paste properly and not catching something so there is a space between the cooler and cpu.
Yes i seen this before, mostly with the older amd AM2 sockets where the edge of the plastic would catch and keep the cooler a few mm above the cpu so it would quickly overheat.

2. Maybe the paste in the cpu lid maybe went bad? This is sometimes happens with those cpus.
Turn the voltage and speed down. Likely just running the stock 4.0ghz is all you can hope for unless you get a delid tool.

3. In the bios turn off the fan's auto or PWM so the fan runs at 100% speed all the time. It's worth a try.

I'm 99,9% sure cooler was installed corectly (it was running fine for some time thermal paste was pretty fresh maybe 2 months old) and fan actually sped up i could even hear it. Thats why i'm scared it could be something wrong with either mobo or cpu (like temp sensor went bad or something like that idk)

Which version of Prime are you using? These days Prime can push your CPU well past anything you'd normally or even abnormally do. 26.6 is sorta recommended with small FFT's.

Have you tried Aida? https://www.aida64.com/downloads

Have you tried Intel's burn test? Set it to Maximum Stress and let it run 10 times. My 4690K topped out at 79 or 80. http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/intelburntest.html

The newest one but crashing due to overheating while playing games? I tried aida when i was chechking oc stability some time ago also prime and it never bsod after 2 seconds....

Never BSOD after 2 seconds? OR always BSOD?

Your CPU might not like that OC. What were your temps. like pre-OC at idle and during gaming and benchmarking.

It never bsod at all until recently been running this oc since i remeber and its actually lower voltage than stock 1.180v (when i set to stock it goes to ~1.250v) i will actually apply new paste this monday (maybe i will get paste sooner but i doubt for now im stuck at home cause reasons :) ) and i will let you know if its all good
