CPU Overheating - Temperatures extremely high?

I've had the same bluescreen error for months(whea uncorrectable error), but have never found any reason as to why until now(most likely)
My cpu temperature idles at about 55C and rises to a max of 85C before crashing when gaming/other things. I've upgraded everything in the computer except for the CPU, thinking it was other things causing the bluescreens(as it mainly happens when playing GTA V)

CPU: AMD Phenom ii x4 965
GPU: GTX 1050 ti
16 GB ram
Not overclocking

Drivers are all up to date
I'm assuming the fan just isn't powerful enough to keep it cool. Could I possibly move a newer fan(just bought a couple last week)and replace the cpu fan with it, or are cpu fans and regular fans different things?

Solution
Get a new cpu cooler. At this rate you'll end up damaging your cpu permanently. A hyper 212 evo is a cheap cooler and should keep your cpu cool enough.

thanks, I never thought of that. What could I do to cool it down, and why is it so hot
