Hello guys and gals,
I have decided to upgrade my old FX-8350 system.
I want to re-purpose my PC from a general use/light gaming PC to a pure gaming PC.
My budget is about $700 (Canadian)
Here are the new parts I would like to get:
CPU: Intel - Core i5-8400 2.8GHz 6-Core Processor ($239.99 @ Memory Express)
Motherboard: MSI - Z370 GAMING PLUS ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($162.99 @ Newegg Canada)
Memory: G.Skill - Ripjaws V Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR4-3200 Memory ($139.99 @ Newegg Canada)
Storage: Kingston - A400 480GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($0.00)
Video Card: Asus - GeForce GTX 1060 6GB 6GB Dual Video Card ($0.00)
Case: Corsair - SPEC-01 RED ATX Mid Tower Case ($59.99 @ PC Canada)
Power Supply: Corsair - CXM 550W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($81.50 @ Vuugo)
Optical Drive: LG - WH14NS40 Blu-Ray/DVD/CD Writer ($0.00)
Operating System: Microsoft - Windows 10 Home OEM 64-bit ($0.00)
Total: $684.46 (Canadian)
The parts I am keeping from my old system are Kingston 480 GB SSD, GTX 1060 6gb and the blu ray drive. I don't want to re-use the case because it is old and dusty and want to get a new shiny one
I have considered the Ryzen 1600 build but for pure gaming, for about 50 more I think the 8400 will be better. I also don't care for upgrading CPU/motherboard for the next 3-5 years. I also thought about the 8600k but that plus good cooler will be about 150 more expensive, which is a bit much for my budget. Plus I like to keep things quiet and cool so not a big fan of overclocking.
Here are some question I have:
1) Is the Case I chose a decent one? What i am looking for is good cooling. I am a little paranoid about things getting too hot. My old 100R Carbide got so hot I could roast eggs on the top. Probably due to my FX-8350.
2) Is the stock cooler on the 8400 enough or should I get a better one
3) If I build using my old SSD, once I put everything together, will I be able to boot into my Windows without problems or will the SSD go crazy because it got connected to a new mobo/CPU?
