Hi, hopefully I'm posting this in the right place. I have absolutely no experience building PC's and would just like some opinions on what the best build is for my budget. I'd be using the PC for gaming as well as general tasks and school work.

I have done some research into building a PC and would like to attempt it myself with the help of some more knowledgeable friends. However, I have no idea when it comes to buying components and don't want to waste any money. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :)

@ cscutty: RE your PM.

The differences are:
I have used a faster CPU, his build uses a 4 core part, my build uses a 6 core part-think of each core as being a separate CPU. Although his R5 1500X has a higher speed ( 3.5GHz ) than mine ( 3.2GHz ) the extra cores make it faster due to its 6 cores.
My choice of CPU doesn't need a separate cooler, one is included with the CPU in its box.
I have used 16Gb of memory, I could drop it to 8Gb but the extra memory gives the system more room to work.
I have used a 3Gb graphics card ( often called a GPU or Graphics Processing Unit ) he uses a 6Gb card, this is for cost reasons, I couldn't use the faster ( and more expensive ) CPU AND a 6Gb card while staying under £800.

Note, neither of us has included the cost of a Windows licence, here's a modified build that does:

A few points:
Be patient and do some research, you sound young, so it'll be hard to hold fire, but I advise you to do so, this is an expensive purchase and it's possible to make plenty of mistakes.
Seek plenty of advice, here and in other Forums, actually assembling a PC isn't hard, getting the right parts is, the more you know the better informed your decisions will be.
Remember, The Wise use the magic learning word of Google. ;)

SSD can be added later as CPU is harder to upgrade. 1060 6gb can handle any 1080p gaming with doubled VRAM and more cuda cores. 8gb is enough for current gaming, but plan to upgrade to 16 go later.

How to get the 2 free AAA games:

Buy CPU and mb combo at Aria PC here: https://www.aria.co.uk/asus/ryzenreloaded

And get 2 AAA games for free, worth 100+. I wish I am in U.K. And building right now :pt1cable: LOL

Let me know if you have any questions.

While I did pick a four core cpu, you did not pick a "better" cpu. Yes, the 1500x only has four cores, BUT, it has 8 threads in total. Games can only take advantage of four cores, and the 1500x has a higher clock speed than the 1600, so therefore it is faster in actual gameplay. Games really only need 8gb of ram, getting 16gb is really only for future-proofing it. The 1500x has a stock cooler too, but for a cheap price the hyper 212 EVO is a great cooler and you might as well get it for the price. Never get a gpu with less than 4gb of ram. Seems like you never heard of radeon. Also, the OP doesn't need to know what a graphics card is. He also doesn't need a dvd/cd writer. In conclusion, don't start an argument without knowing the true facts, you fucking idiot.

Odd, didn't start an argument, just made a suggestion.
The R5 1600 bests the R5 1500X in most games due to its higher core count-many games can use more than 4 cores-it's only older games where the R5 1500X would score a small win due to its higher speed.
Yep, 8 Gb is a fair MINIMUM today, but it's easily used up when someone gets to running dozens of browser tabs while playing a game, hence the 16Gb suggestion.
There's no need for a extra cooler, the stock parts are more than good enough, and adding the Hyper 212 only makes the R5 1500X worse value, the R5 1600 is only a few quid more than a R5 1500X/Hyper 212 Evo-and a much better overall performer.
Neither of us mentioned AMD Radeon, why do so now? And FYI the 3Gb GTX1060 is perfectly fine for 1080 gaming, TBH 4Gb in this price range is really wasted money, the actual GPU core isn't fast enough to use the larger memory for higher settings anyway.
No DVD/CD? Well, maybe not but he may get a DVD Windows install disc, in which case installing might be a little difficult, don't you think? Not to mention all those old games tat only come on disc.
Drop the swearing, it's not big, it's not clever, it's against the Forum rules, the Mods don't like it and it shows you to be an idiot yourself.
