Hello.
I have this old Mustek 1200 UB Plus scanner that comes with an installation CD that does not work.
Today it is the eleventh day that I am fiddling with the notebook trying to solve this problem.
I do it for a very good friend of mine and I would be very pleased to help him and succeed.
The instructions say that I have to put the CD in the optical drive but launch it by giving D:\run from the Run box in Windows XP.
It is an old scanner but brand new because the owner gave it away without ever using it.
All other CD's work well in the drive except for this one.
I have tried everything but now I want to try a different thing because when I give run command to launch the CD I get an error message:
D:\ is not accessible
The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.
As I say, this only happens with the Mustek CD.
Does anyone know a different way of launching such a CD?
Any idea how I can solve this problem?
Any help will be much appreciated.
Thanks a lot and best regards

Just to be clear. The other discs you are trying are definitely CDs not DVDs. CD and DVD use different wavelengths. It's not unusual for an optical drive to fail on CD but still work with DVD or vice versa.

If it won't run. You can just download the drivers from the Mustek FTP server. I don't know if it is the files in 12LV10 or Library12. Just download everything in each and run the .exe files. Just to be clear these appear to be packed to fit in floppy discs. So you will need everything in 12LV10 or Library12 in the same folder. Then it will either run through the files or prompt for the location of each one. You may or may not have to play around with mounting them. It's been a long time since I've dealt with something like that.

Thanks a lot.
I had been through the Mustek support but had not found my model (too old),
Yes, I have found it now trhat you helped but the files are for floppies and I do not know how to go around it .
I do not want to go on disturbing you so I think I shall just drop the matter.
Thanks anyway for having found what was useful.

You needed to dig deeper into the FTP archives.

Thank you.
I am writing from Italy but I lived in the UK for 4 years and unlike many Italians who study English at school but cannot say Good morning I have tried to learn as best as I could because in today's world . . . .
I have downloaded the 4 floppy files, went to the Chinese shop that is always open and bought 6 CD's (2 for future need). I have burnt the files into the 4 CD'0s and I keep the work ready for tomorrow. I am not doing it just now because if something goes wrong I shall go on using the little energy I have until I find the solution, because I am 66 and one thing I learnt from life is that you must NEVER give up, not even in the face of the evidence.
Thanks a lot, I shall come back later tomorrow I suppose.

Hello,
I tried to install the scanner tonight, to no avail.
I inserted CD Nr. 1, it run, a window popped up showing me the installation progress, then another windows asked me to insert CD Nr. 2, the same thing happened with CD Nr. 2 and then with CD's 3 and 4.
I then didi the reboot but nothing new showed up in Win XP.
I really don't know what else I could be trying.
