I recently bought the RX 580 8GB GPU and my PC has 2x4GB of RAM.
I have to upgrade my RAM, so should I buy 2x4GB or 1x8GB?

Solution
RAM should always be installed in matched sets when possible. It would be best if you bought a 2 x8gb kit and sold your old RAM and used it elsewhere. Even identical modules not purchased in matched sets can have difficulty playing nice together.

If that is not possible, then yes, going with a 2 x4gb matched set to add would be better than 1 x8gb and would also hopefully, so long as it plays nice, allow you to have dual channel operation which significantly increases DRAM performance, which the single stick of 8gb will not allow even if it does somehow work with your other memory.
