Hello Everyone
I have recently acquired a HP compaq dc7900 Small form factor PC from my school.
I have already wiped the hard drive and installed windows 10.
I have also ordered a USB wifi dongle (i dont have ethernet, i live in a boardinghouse).
I was wondering what i should buy to upgrade the PC to be able to play newer games at 1080, or 720. I was thinking of a RX550 but i dont know if it will work in my PC. I have also thought about upgrading the RAM.
Should i even buy a graphics card or a new processor?
Any other tips?
thanks in advance

1. having an HP Small form factor is going to severly limit your video card addition in two folds;
a) you will only be able to find a video card that is defined as "slim"
b) your current power supply will limit the kind of video card you can even support.

2. the HP Compaq dc7900 has many variations, look on the HP Label and you should see something like this , let us know what your label says
example : Part Number: KR806UT#ABA , this will tell us the very specifics of your hardware you have on hand.

3. before buying anything lets review what you have and if it is cost efficient, or even possible to upgrade internal components such as ram and cpu and power supply.

It says product No KP721AV
Part Lookup number KW041AV
Is that what you need?

thank you , with that number and the hp web site I get
https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-compaq-dc7900-small-form-factor-pc/3785403/model/3785166/document/c01570345

Small Form Factor: 240 W active PFC
so this means that you do not have pcie 6+2 extra Power cable for some video card, and the video card needs to be slim to fit in case.

the RX 550 series has a low profile about 85$
https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814137148&cm_re=rx_550_low_profile-_-14-137-148-_-Product
it states clearly Recommended PSU: 400W

Your power supply is going to limit your choices in video card a lot, most modern video card (build last 10 years) for gaming need 300w PSu.
being a slim case your problem is that hanging the power supply for a better one is going to be difficult, there are some makers that create 400-500w PSu for slim cases (I have not search names I leave that up to you) and for the cost you could get a tower case and power supply and transfer your HP system into the new case ..

I looked online and i cant find a suitable power supply, and even if i could, i dont think i would be able to get it at nearly the right price range needed. As for the case i had a quick look online and they are all quite expensive for computor cases.
I might have another old full tower PC Case but im not sure what brand it is and i cant get it till early December or late november, i think i should look into that one and see whats in that one.
i cant remember any specs on it but i will get back to you when i do find that out.
It could even possibly have better parts.
thanks for the help, i will update when i can
