I have fiber to the house, isp modem set to bridge mode, Asus 52C, and VpyrVPN. Without the vpn connected I am getting 200mps or so. With the vpn connected I am getting 4-6 mps, regardless of what node I connect to.

I live in Thailand and have tried a couple of vpns and several nodes with the same results.

This leads me to believe a) I have a router setting that is the problem ( qos is off ) or 2) my isp is throttling the connection because it is encrypted ( I have heard rumors and speculation ).

I am using the Asus WRT software so the Vypr app won't work or I would just switch protocols.

Any suggestions?

Thank you in advance, JC

As mentioned in my original post, Vypr. I have also tried Nord with the same results.

If it was the servers, I would be seeing different speeds at different distances, but I am not. Speed stays pretty constant across different connections.

It may be the router vpn software slowing you down, the cpu is not real large in a router. Not sure about your vpn provider but PIA lets you test to their servers without a account. This is not really a true vpn connection and it runs on your PC and not your router but it should let you see if the ISP is limiting you. If you get good numbers to one of their data centers you could subscribe for 1 month and see if your router can run that fast also.

Ok, the problem is in the router.

Still do not know if it is the ddrt software or a setting, but it is a router issue.

Still open to solutions.........
