Good long term storage option for video files

I have approx 800GB of old video files, home movies, and random media files currently stored on an older external hard drive.

I really don't want to get rid of them, and we are keeping for more nostalgia than practical reasons as we will likely never take the time to go through them.

Question: What is the best way to have these accessible long term? Keep moving them to a new external HDD every few years? Keep on an internal drive and replace every few years? I also am not thrilled with the idea of burning a hundred DVDs, but if they will last a long time then maybe.

Thoughts?

well the lifespan of a DVD is about 2-5 years anyways so its no better than a NAS or external hard drive. I would make a copy on a cloud system like google cloud or Microsoft one. and leave it there :)

I'm curious as to why you quoted 2-5 years as the lifespan of DVDs. I have DVDs that are 20 years old and they play just fine.

I just don't use dvd anymore, I converted all dvd to iso and use them as I need them on usb drives. all that dvd stuff resides on a NAS drive. Hell I don't even have any pc's that contain a dvd, but if I needed one I have a USB extern dvd drive in case be...

besides a single 8T drive on a shelf is a lot nicer than a slew of dvd cases .. why all music, movies and software are on NAs drives.
