CPU running at 99-101 celsius

Hi
My CPU lately has been running at 99-101 celius....is that normal?????? and thats when Im running a game like Shadow of war, Wither 3 etc. but also overwatch

kinda scared that is my CPU temperatur is soo high, I dont want to damge it

I have a intel xeon w3680 3.33 ghz with a gtx 1070 8gb vram, have 20 gb ram and running at windows 10 pro

H7 doesn't support LGA 1366. Saying "mid-tower" doesn't provide any information regarding cooler height support. If you want to be extra sure the cooler will fit, you can get a low profile cooler, e.g. https://pcpartpicker.com/product/mPbp99/cryorig-cpu-cooler-crc1a

That is anything but normal. You need to look into a better CPU cooler ASAP. Temperatures at that level can cause permanent damage and reduce the life expectancy of parts, especially CPUs.

So.... does that mean that my CPU is good enough to handle gtx 1070? but I need a better cooler to get the temp. down

It doesn't say anything about whether or not your "CPU is good enough to handle gtx 1070". All it says is that your CPU is overheating. You can try cleaning the cooler/PC and/or repasting it. You'll probably just need a better cooler though, what cooler are you using?

Hmm...Im not sure, but its a intel heatsink which I think is connected to the cooler but I could be wrong (Sorry for sounding dumb)

The words "cooler" and "heatsink [with fan]" are often used interchangeably.

Hmm, I don't think Xeons come with stock heatsinks though. Do you think you may have had an Intel heatsink lying around from a previous CPU that you then used with your w3680?

Either way, stock heatsinks aren't great even today, and I think they used to be worse years ago when that CPU was released. It's a pretty high power CPU too, so it's no wonder it's overheating when paired with a weak cooler.

So does that mean that I should just pick a better heatsink and cooler? but the problem I have right now is, If I buy a new heatsink or cooler do I need buy them separatly or what? (sorry for stupid quiestion)
and I forget to say That I got this pc from a person who Have built it on his own pretty much everthing besides the grafichs card which I upgraded myself.....but He said to me that the xeon W3680 shoudl be able to run well with a strong grafich cards ( but well I think I need a better cooler )

Ok, could you give some links to some of those heatsink/fan. btw my case only allow one fan to send the heat out. Besides that is it difficult to install it on the motherboard?

Eh, I'd get something a little more capable than a 212 EVO for cooling a 130W TDP CPU.

Something like a cryorig H5 would be ok I think. And no, generally installing a new cooler isn't too difficult. It should come with instructions, and chances are someone's made a YouTube instruction video as well for any given cooler.

I will say, a single exhaust fan is probably not really enough for that CPU+GPU. Have you looked at the temperature labeled system or motherboard while gaming? That should give you an idea of the air temperature within your case.

OK nice, but...is that it...I mean I dont have to go into the bios or something like that after installing my new cooler?

and what about the temperature (in celcious) how much should it be while running a game at 1080p (I only run on 1080p not low not higher)

You do not need to go into BIOS to change anything when you install a new cooler. It just works. The only time you have to do anything is if you get a fancier (more expensive) cooler that includes monitoring software or something similar (e.g. CollerMaster H100i). The ideal temperature for your CPU would be as low as you can get it. You don't want it getting over around 70-80C.

Your cooler needs to be compatible with socket LGA 1366, and your case needs to be wide enough to accommodate the cooler height. The Cryorig posted above will work with LGA 1366. Can't say if your case is wide enough without knowing what model of case you have.

I think that my case is either 16-17 mm wide ( height for the cooler)

I'm going to assume you mean 16-17 cm not mm. That can give you an idea of what size of cooler will fit, but you'd need to take into account the height of the mobo standoffs, thickness of mobo, etc. Given that the Cryorig H5 Universal is 160mm in height, it's unlikely to fit in that case.

If you're able to find the model of your case, the manufacturer will specify a maximum cooler height for the case which makes things simple.

What about the Cryrig H7, it should fit well in my case, I know that it´s not as good as H5 but it will still be good for my cpu right? ( Im not enitrely sure but I think that my case it´s a mid tower)

ok, but how do u know what lga my motherboard is, where can I see which one it is?
