Hello , i ve got 1x16gb ram 3000mhz for ryzen
but i ve heard it performs a 20% worse than 2x8gb, soo if i add 4gb will it perform better or i have to buy another 16gb Stick ?

Solution
Hi, yes to enable dual channel you need 2 sticks of matching specifications. I imagine you would see some benefit with any 16gb stick but for compatibility issues its best to buy a "set" generally from the same manufacturer, with the same timings. Make sure to consult your motherboard manual on which slots to use to enable dual channel.

Dual channel is applicable to the amount of ram on each channel.
In theory, if you add 4gb, 8gb of your 20gb will operate in dual channel mode.

But... ryzen is picky about ram.

If you want dual channel for 16gb, buy a 2 x 8gb kit of supported ram.
Ram must be matched.
Simply adding another 16gb stick is not 100% guaranteed to work.
It might, but what is your plan B if it does not??
