Hello I wanted to say that crossfire i s much different then sli beacouse in sli u can only have card that are same but in crossfire all cards with same architecture can be crossfired
like all of the r9 200 series and all of the rx 500 series and cards like r9270x and r9 290 can br crosfired
But you have to get the same series.

Solution
You cannot "CrossFire" differing GPUs, no.....
You can CFx things like HD7950 and their rebranded counterparts (an R9 280) etc because, at their core, they're the same GPU.

Even if you could Crossfire 2 different GPUs, you'd be restricting the more powerful card to the performance of the lesser card (in your example, a 270X, the added horsepower of a 290X would be wasted).

DX12 can utilize different cards (even nVidia + AMD) through "explicit multi adapter", but that requires game developers to implement it. AFAIK, support is limited to Ashes of the Singularity currently.
