If i game for a longer period of time, sometimes my pc randomly shuts off. I have recently bought a new cpu, an intel i5, and a new gpu, an MSI gtx1060 3gb. This should not be a problem for my 1200watt psu. I have also monitored my cpu and gpu temperatures and those dont go above 58 and 65 degrees celcius. This only happened when I play rather heavy games such as PUBG and BF1. When this total shutdown occures, I have to switch the PSU off and on again, then wait for about 5 minutes before I can turn my pc back on. What can casue this problem?

the only thing I can think of it the protections are kicking in and shutting down the system. if the unit were failing reboots would be typical.
can you monitor the temps of the unit? right after shutdown is it warmer than it should be?
is the system plugged into a surge suppressor? how old? should be changed regularly 20-24 months.
can you access another PSU for testing?
you could try a new environment to clear the software as an issue
Boot to a USB drive with linux on it. grab a USB drive, a copy of rufus and a linux distribution.
http://distrowatch.com/ has tons of differing linux distributions and download links. I personally an fond of linux mint with cinnamon.
https://rufus.akeo.ie/ the utility used to extract the ISO file to the USB drive.
use rufus to extract the selected ISO to the tunmb drive. it will make the drive bootable and you can run linux from the drive once done.
Reboot into linux and proceed to test the hardware. connect to internet, watch videos, await problems.
if linux is good and stable the issue is most likely inside windows or otherwise software related.
this is a test of the hardware.

My pc is plugged into a 6 slot socket and when the PC shuts down all the other devices keep working... I wouldnt know if the PSU might get too hot, is there any software to monitor that (if my psu even has a thermometer in the first place)?

the unit has OTP Over Temperature Protections, there is a thermal chip but it does not have any readout you can view. when the thermal chip gets too hot it shuts down until the temperature drops.
The PSU has an exhaust, feel the exhaust and the case thereabouts. warm is fine, hot is bad.

that does explain why i can only turn it back on after a few minutes, so i guess thats the case. But then it remains a mystery why it started happening in the winter, while in the summer, with ecaxtly the same compontents, this problem did not occure.

the manufacturer should warrant the unit from the date of manufacture. if you cannot prove the purchase date with a receipt or other dated proof of purchase.
check the cooler master website, the retailer is not involved past a short return period. 30-90 days at most then its the manufacturers responsibility.
