I have a Alienware x51 r2 with a 760ti, its surprisingly done me well with no problems or complaints, other than not enough airflow so it gets pretty toasty. Anyway as you know that card is way out of date nowadays and struggles to keep up. Like I said i'm pretty happy with everything else, so I don't wanna get a whole new pc, or update the internal gpu (as there not being enough room and the psu is only 300w).
Anyways, is there anyway I could use an external gpu (the ones for laptops) on a desktop? I've done a quick google search and haven't found much luck. If anyone could help me out that would be much appreciated!

Update: I was looking at using this external gpu unit https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125990&ignorebbr=1&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-PC&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-PC-_-pla-_-Video+Card+-+Nvidia-_-N82E16814125990&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIioLjhsq81wIV2IKzCh2fNg9tEAQYAyABEgJ32vD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

Solution
This is essentially a desktop, so I see no reason not to just replace the 760Ti.

A GTX1060 6GB would be a 120W GPU vs the 170W GPU you already have. So power/temperature would go down. Don't waste money on an external GPU setup.

Technically in spec for a GTX1070 at 150W, but I wouldn't push it too much if you want to reduce noise and thermals.

Maximum Card Length: 9,5''
Maximum Card Width: 4.376''

So you won't be able to use a standard 10.5" card, but there are plenty of "Mini" GTX 1060 6GB that are closer to 8"
