Hey everyone, I've been using the standard ATT uverse router with its standard WIFI capabilities. I'm in the market for a router with a QoS capability so that I can limit the bandwidth of each connected device so that when my family member's are streaming videos, it does not decrease my gaming performance

Asus I think still runs the same firmware on all their routers. Their QoS is somewhat better than netgear. A subset of the asus routers has the ability to run the merlin firmware which has better QoS. The merlin firmware tends to be more stable than dd-wrt or tomato but only runs on asus routers.

QoS is very tricky to use to solve the issue you have. You are trying to fix the problem after the data has already arrived at your house and eaten the bandwidth. In reallity what you are doing is attempting to trick the end machine watching video to think there is less bandwidth and drop to a lower resolution. If the person using the machine force it to not drop and just tolerates the poor quality the QoS will not solve your problem...

Still QoS does not solve the real problem which is lack of internet capacity at your house. It really is just a electronic form of yelling down the hall I am playing game so you need to stop watching your videos. If you can get a agreement that your game playing actually is more important you do not need magic QoS firmware and if you do not have that agreement then we will see the other person coming to this forum asking how to bypass your router settings.
