GPU dead or drivers at fault?

Hi. A week ago my GPU decided to die on me. At least that's what I thought happened. However after some more thinking I started to wonder if that was the case.

Here's the story:
I wasn't even doing anything demanding. When playing around in Godot Engine I suddenly got some artifacts followed by a screen freeze. Just after that everything came back to normal with following message "Driver stopped responding and has recovered" only to seconds later, fill the entire screen with more artifacts (lots and lots of strips, you know).
After restart I would only get black screen and nothing else. I took the GPU out (simple input changing had no effect) and switched to iGPU. And that's where I'm now.

What should I do to pinpoint the issue a little bit better? Overheating wasn't the case 100%. Fans were working without a problem, dust levels were just fine. I believe drivers were up to date.

Thank you.

PS. Could a GPU crash be connected to low HDD space? I recall it happening to me in the past while playing War Thunder (fairly demanding), but that's was just my theory. During the latest crash I had around 5 GB of space on my system disk.
