I'm planning to get a Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3P motherboard and an amd fx-8350, but this mobo only has a 4 pin cpu power connection. Will this be enough to power my system? I'm running at stock speeds

Understandable, but you are paying a good amount of money for a 2012 platform. Putting it simply you are paying 75% of the price for 50% of the performance. Not to mention after you drop $200 into this 5 year old platform you will have no upgrade path.

Best advice is to save some money, and by then the i3 coffee lake should be released and it will be much better than the fx and has plenty of room for upgrades.

In the OP's defence i still got my FX 8320 OC'ed to 4.5, 16GB DDR3@2133 and a EVGA 960 4Gb and I plays games like RE7/Evil Within/FO4/battlefeild 3/4 and I have no issues getting at least 30fps on high @ 1920x1200. Yes I don't recommend buying a new FX series but they can still get the job done. I know on my server I had which was a dual core celeron, i had upgraded it something better due to Plex and it was VERY hard to find a proper motherboard (was that specials Mini ITX but with two PCIe slots) that ran a 4th Gen intel so i didn't have to spend another 70 bucks for newer RAM so i feel you there.
